This was supposed to be the big one. Four years of a new president. Voter turnout among young people was at an all time high, the candidates were taking notice of what we had to say. We were an influential force in the election at long last. Throughout it all the only thing I could think was: So what?
Even when the future of the country was on hand I still couldn’t bring myself to become extremely interested in what was happening globally. While two men gave speeches about the economy, …

Danny pauses for a photo while attaching a poster to a fellow Obama supporter
Danny Montalvo has spent the past week going door to door in search of students who would like a “Support Barack Obama” poster to display. Montalvo, a member of the University Democrats at Bloomsburg University, has been volunteering for Senator Obama.
“I think it’s a good way for me to contribute my time towards the Democrats and a great way to recruit people to our cause,” he said.
Montalvo is among thousands of students at Bloomsburg University who …

Daniel Rae, 19, sits at the front desk of Elwell Hall, a textbook open in front of him…unread. He glances at a yellow sheet of paper that hangs on the wall inside the office. “Quote Board” is written across the paper’s top. A prominent quote near the bottom reads, ‘The Obama campaign is really starting to gear up… -Dan Rae.’
The catch phrase he has used all semester seems significant somehow, with one of the most historic and important presidential elections now within sight. His brown eyes scan the crowds entering …

A political pup sports on campus a sign proclaiming its allegiance to Barack Obama during election day.
With the election of the 44th President of the U.S. in sight, voters are finalizing their decisions and preparing to cast their ballots. The race to the White House has been a close one from the beginning, and now only one question remains: who will finally emerge victorious?
Students on the Bloomsburg University campus seemed more than enthused to express their views and take part in the most pivotal election in years. Volunteer students were …

For many early morning voters, it is difficult to eat breakfast, get to their polling place, cast their votes, and make it to work on time. That is where the voters’ bake table can come in handy.
Ask Joe and Sandy Young of Harrisburg, PA. They set up a bake table every year at their polling sites during local elections and presidential elections. They make a variety of baked goods as well as soups, coffee, hot chocolate, and hotdogs to satisfy hungry voters.
“We are almost clean out of everything …

As of 10pm Monday night, national polls suggest that John McCain trails Barack Obama by 7% in the popular vote, and by over 122 votes in the electoral college. Needless to say, if Senator McCain would like to pull this thing off tomorrow, he’s going to need a little help. That’s where we come in. Last spring, for reasons still unknown, Joe Arleth and Andrew Wakelee threw their hat into the CGA presidential election ring. Popularity was never a problem for the two- having a cutting edge radio show and …

Courtney Jones, wearing ball shorts and a T-shirt, flops on her bed that overlooks the basketball court outside Columbia Hall. Her dorm room is the same as others except everything is impeccably neat and in order. She’s about to go to the gym and waits impatiently for her roommate. She checks her voice mail and then slams her phone shut.
“I have a cousin who’s in Iraq and my friend’s boyfriend is in Iraq,” Jones said. “ She talks to him like once every few months. One of …

Patty DeForrest of Huntingdon compares Barack Obama’s campaign Web site to the human cardiovascular system.
”Even if you’re just a tiny capillary, this just makes you feel like you’re in touch with the whole heart of the campaign,” she said, clicking through some of the site’s features.
DeForrest never participated in politics before this presidential election and said, without the Internet, she probably wouldn’t have this year.
The ease of getting online to donate money, organize local phone banks and canvasses and view …
