Before the season started, shortstop Jimmy Rollins made another bold prediction as he has been accustomed to over the past two years. “Philadelphia Phillies will be the team to beat in the East” and he did not disappoint as the Phillies clinched the NL East Division with a 4-3 win over the Washington Nationals at Citizen Bank Park this past Saturday giving them their second division title in the past two years.
The Phillies were clinging to a 4-2 lead entering the ninth inning. Closer Brad Linge barely escaped the inning until …

The film Invisible Children is a documentary made by three college students from California who traveled to Uganda in 2003 to “find a story.” What they found was a 22-year long war, currently the longest war in Africa, and the thousands of people that are afflicted by the brutality, torture, and sexual violence of the LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army). The film is called Invisible Children because the filmmakers believed the children who are forced to fight in a violent guerilla army were invisible to the United States. With the use of humor and real footage, this film has raised momentous amounts of awareness and even formed a non-profit organization out of high public response.

I am very picky in terms of my sports. I acknowledge baseball, basketball and football (hockey is on probation) while everything else kind of just blends into the background.
There is a problem with this philosophy though. See, I am a college student. We are historically supposed to be open to new things. I feel like I am undermining this stereotype. Something has to be done.
So what did I do this Friday night? I attended my very first water polo game.
In case you haven’t heard, (which is possible because the only …

Battle of the bands- While at Bloomsburg, I have had the privilege of witnessing community members rise to meet a pressure situation on several occasions. I was present when the student body packed (and rocked) the Nelson Field house against Mansfield.. I had sideline seats to the football teams’ upset victory over California PA last month. Just the other day, I even faced my own dare-to-be-great situation with a historic rally to win a well fought contest of “Pocket Tanks” with my buddy Dave.
This past week, we once again …

According to Bloomsburg’s Today Web site, “this year the Student Health Center will offer flu shots to students from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3, in Multipurpose Room A, KUB. No appointment is necessary and the cost is $12 per student.”
Many students won’t even take advantage of the opportunity that the Health Center is providing but as soon as the aches, …

An oldie but a goody, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest tells the story of a rebellious patient in a highly structured psych ward.
With a story line that is hard to stop reading, Ken Kesey pulls the reader into a strict setting through the eyes of a chronically ill patient in the psych ward. Through his narration, the monotony and repetition of the schedule makes the reader believe that they are actually in the ward themselves! But the reality of the illnesses and disorders in the ward can be shocking …

I am curious what the feelings were about Bloomsburg University’s policy of “Trayless Tuesday.” It is my understanding that the majority of students will not even attempt to eat at the Scranton Commons on Tuesday because of how much of a hassle it is. It has also been brought to my attention that the staff of the commons also does not like “Trayless Tuesday,” because it makes it harder to complete their job.
My personal belief is that anyone can make any day “trayless,” and it isn’t required that as soon …

Kyle Ream and Matt Bosso never had the opportunity to play football against each other in high school.
They were, however, drawn to Bloomsburg University for exactly the same reasons.
The winning tradition. A family-oriented program. And, head coach Danny Hale.
Both players fit the Huskies mold of high-character student-athletes with a strong work ethic.
That said, it’s no coincidence that Ream and Bosso are leaders of the offensive unit that is ranked No. 2 in the nation in rushing at 287.5 yards per game, and also has a …

With the recent bust at Delta Pi on Lightstreet Road and the most recent bust at Zetes, the community and students will consider this question more than ever. Do the drugs, partying, and drinking outweigh the potential benefits that Greek Life has to offer?
Late Tuesday, Sept. 16, police executed a pre-planned bust on Bloomsburg’s own Delta Pi, handing out underage citations to 61 students. The bust brought attention to the fraternity and got the students of Bloomsburg talking. On Bloomsburg’s Greek Life website, the Q and A section advises that “each organization …
