It’s unbelievable to me that in just over a week, JesVic will be happening again.
Last year was the first time this charity 5K race and walk occured, and after the day was over the co-coordinator, Suzie, and I knew it was something so healthy for the community that it had to become annual. Now we’ve found ourselves neck deep and in control of one of the biggest charity events this town has ever seen.  It’s freakin overwhelming.
What if the timers malfunction?  What if we don’t recruit enough volunteers?  What if there’s a glitch in the …

During the last few weeks before students left for summer break, several of them received phishing spam to their university e-mail accounts, partially due to out-of-date e-mail protocols. Samuel Josuweit, of network services, said that the messages were generated by virus-infected, off-campus computers. “The virus uses e-mail addresses harvested from the infected computer as targets and sources. The e-mails requested students’ usernames and passwords. Of the 12,000 student e-mail accounts, about 600 of them received the spam, and only 6 of them responded to it. Because of the anti-spam system, those …

Several Bloomsburg students have now received at least two phishing spam e-mails to their university e-mail accounts.  These e-mails request information about their usernames, passwords, a “secret question” and a “secret answer.”  Student have been directed by the Office of Technology to not respond to any such e-mail because it is phishing spam.  The office said that one possible way to solve the problem is to prevent all internet e-mails from coming into student mailboxes, but that would also block all internet e-mails that are legitimate as well.
The last e-mail was sent with …

BLOOMSBURG- On Saturday afternoon, Bloomsburg University’s Iron Club and the Organization of Competitive Bodybuilders hosted the 2008 OCB Bloomsburg Naturals, and for one student, it was a family affair.
Zach Hoffman, a freshman majoring in elementary education, made his first appearance in a bodybuilding contest. However, Zach wasn’t the only Hoffman to walk out onto the stage in Haas Auditorium that day. Both his older brother and his father joined him in the competition.
Zach’s only sibling, Matt Hoffman, is a 2005 graduate of Lycoming College. Matt now lives on Virginia’s Eastern …

Pennsylvania, especially Lancaster County, is well known for its puppy mills. Puppy mills are breeding factories for puppy wholesalers. The Oprah Show featured a special on puppy mills with reporter Lisa Ling traveling to Lancaster Country, the center for Puppy Mills in Pa and the east coast.
After watching the episode, I was astounded by the conditions of puppy mills in my own state. The dogs are treated like livestock - not like pets. Many of the dogs live and die in the same small cage, never getting the chance to step …

The university’s athletic program of the past two years can be summed up in a word – transformation. New facilities have been installed, old ones revamped, and new head coaches are to be instated. At this month’s SAAC meeting, two baseball athletes urged administration to consider making another change.
The Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) consists of two representatives from each team here at Bloomsburg and meets every month with Kevin Wood of Athletic Operations. They discuss team, coaching, equipment, facility and academic issues they encounter as student athletes. Before closing …

This year marked Bloomsburg University’s fourth annual Personal Adornment Day and Makeup Extravaganza. The show is based around the idea of using materials in innovative ways to adorn the human body. Makeup is used to supplement these designs, and to create a holistic look for the model displaying the work. Materials ranged from silk charmuse to battery operated lights, and proved to make the show more and more interesting with every pass down the runway.
While each of the twenty-four artists involved were inventive and interesting in their own way, in …

What were you doing in the late afternoon of Thursday, April 10th? That evening, the fourth
annual Personal Adornment Day and Makeup Extravaganza took over Haas. It was a bit like a carnival or
parade, complete with music and applause. Mixed
Media, Fabric Design, 3D Design, and Theatre students showcased their obviously
time-consuming projects in a fun and music-filled environment that evening. Students
and faculty set up a runway through the already art-filled gallery upstairs that stretched from the back of the gallery, where models prepared to walk …

After attending the fourth annual Personal Adornment Day and Makeup Extravaganza Thursday April 10th, I came away from the show feeling very surprised to have seen so many different types of wearable art. I had never attended the Personal Adornment show before and did not know what to expect when I climbed the stairs to the Haas Gallery of Art. There was a catwalk outlined running the length of the gallery surrounded by fold out chairs on both sides. When I arrived at the show around 5pm, the gallery space …
